U13 Girls seal league title

OBWCC's under 13 girls sealed their league title on Wednesday night with a fantastic 62 run win against Golden Hill Earthquake, securing another piece of silverware for the club.

Having lost the toss and been asked to bat, OBWs got themselves well placed after 10 overs, at 50-3.

Adi Tryfonos ran brilliantly for an important 18, while Amy reached 26 with some great shot making.

Millie produced the performance of the game with the bat hitting 34 runs from 24 balls, including 6 fours and 1 six, meaning OBWs finished their innings on 151 all out.

The bowling innings then began perfectly as Amy took a wicket with the very first ball, while Grace Davis took 4/9 from three overs.

Two wickets from Izzy Tryfonos helped see off Golden Hill's top three early, while Claudia, Jess and Jasie each took one to secure the win as the opposition were bowled out for 89.

The result means that in the Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation U13 South league, OBWs now have an unassailable six point lead over Golden Hill's Monsoon side, with just one game left to play.

An amazing season for the youth

Wednesday's performance was just one of many highlights from OBW's youngsters this year.

Last month, our U11 performance side secured the Bristol Youth Cricket League Cup, beating Rockhampton in the final at Winterbourne.

Our U11 softball girls side won every game of their Gloucestershire league, while the U11 girl's hardball side have won their league unbeaten and the U11 Sunday side have finished second in their North Somerset league featuring 22 teams.

At the U13 level on top of the girl's winning their league they have also qualified for finals day of the 100 Cup on 18 August, while the U13 boys have finished equal third in their Thursday league out of 19 teams.

The only blip has come in our U15 boys side who have won just once, though a side full of boys from younger age groups, their future is bright.

The senior section

In the men's section of the club Saturday 28th July saw more strong performances, with all three sides winning.

Away at Bath CC in WEPL Bristol and North Somerset the 1st XI won by three wickets and are now top of the league, with main rivals Knowle having lost their last three games in a row.

At Fortress Failand the 2nd XI beat University of Bristol Staff 1st XI by five wickets in one of their tighter contests this season; with the 2nd XI remaining top of Bristol & District Division Four.

Meanwhile the 3rd XI won a crucial bottom of the table clash in B&D Division Seven West, beating Claverham (Yatton) away from home, by four wickets.

That result means the 3rd XI remain ninth in their league, but only 18 points behind fifth.
