Men's 1's beat rivals on WEPL return

Our OBWCC Men's 1st XI (sponsored by Westbury Park Chiropractic & Physiotherapy) made a triumphant return to WEPL action on Saturday 11th May, beating local rivals Bristol CC away from home.

Making their return to the WEPL a week late having been hit by the weather in week one, captain George Willis (sponsored by Meadow View Holidays) got things off to a good start by winning the toss and putting Bristol CC's 2nd XI in to bat.

One of six players in the side making their OBWCC debuts, overseas Aussie seamer Fletcher May (sponsored by Travis Perkins) made the initial breakthrough, with fellow opening bowler and debutant Joel Brierley (sponsored by Redlink Construction) taking 3-50.

Jino Jojo, (sponsored by Orca Electrical) a third debutant, was pick of the bowlers grabbing 4-29 off his full 10 overs, as Bristol were bowled out for 198. All rounder Ben Cunliffe (sponsored by Mezze Restaurant) also took one wicket on debut.

On the batting front things got off to a shaky start with OBW's finding themselves 15-2 at one stage, before 4th debutant Alex Tryfonos (sponsored by MRB bat repairs) and Ben Jarman (sponsored by New Heat Plumbing & Electrical) put on a decent stand, Tryfonos ending the match 57* off 119 balls.

Also chipping with great contributions were 5th debutant and former Gloucestershire player Rob Cunliffe (sponsored by Regency Purchasing Group) who made 41 before being run out and May, who finished 31* after coming in at number 9.

Having played one game less than the rest of the league bar Bedminster, the result puts OBWCC fourth, only behind Twyford House, Knowle and Bradley Stoke who have each won both of their games to date.

Down the leagues in the Bristol & District Fourth Division the Men's 2nd XI were undone by a strong Bristol Sri Lankans side.

Losing the toss at home and being put in to bat, OBW's made a respectable 206/8 off their 40 overs, with Josh Kleu (sponsored by GS Flooring) once again top scoring with 80, giving him an early season average to envy of 76.50.

With the ball things started promisingly with BSL at one stage 38-2, before their numbers 3, 4 and 5 took the game away from OBW's scoring 70, 32 and 53* respectively. The away side knocked the runs off with two and a half overs to spare.

Playing on the next door pitch in B&D Division Seven West, the Men's 3rd XI were also beaten by Bradley Stoke who set a target of 188 batting first.

It proved too much with OBW's bowled out for 146, captain Rob Simpson (sponsored by Avonmead Accountants) top scoring with 23.

Elsewhere in the club the Women's 1st XI emphatically beat Golden Hill in a Thursday T20 fixture, bowling the visitors out for 82 before chasing it down inside 18 overs with five wickets to spare. Zoe Snelling finished 41*, while debutants Adrianna and Izzy Tryfonos each took three wickets with the ball.

That same night our Girl's U11 side beat Bradley Stoke, while on Sunday 12th May our Girl's U13 side beat Bishopston in their first ever fixture.
